As much as I cannot stand when mediocrity is celebrated as greatness, it can be just as if not more damaging to the genre when genuine creativity and risk taking are overlooked. All throughout the promotion for Lee Cronin's The Mummy, an alarming reaction that has persisted was the response that "this doesn't feel like a Mummy movie". As if this pedestrian and shallow feedback wasn't ill-informed enough, even YouTubers have taken to their livestreams to repeat this mantra. Therefore I hope then that you'll indulge me as I take to my platform In Defense Of This Film. I'll take you down a rabbit hole of the tightrope that franchises and genres walk to define, expand, while some trip into unfamiliar territory. I'll also drop a bombshell that should be pretty apparent when it comes to this genre that no one is talking about. I for one believe that the genre needs to roll the dice more often with its series because playing it safe spells getting passed by.

What an utter waste. This is what I get for being optimistic. With the exception of the animation, Predator Killer of Killers botches its premise and potential literally from the jump. From its aggressively annoying girl boss Viking opener, to its episode conclusions, to the end fight, to that surprise (?) closing scene, the disappointments were aplenty. It's almost impressive how this movie squandered so much that it had going for it. All this animated feature do was further embarrass the Predator when it had the opportunity to re-establish how dangerous this species really is. The way this movie portrays what should be recognized as the lead character, you would think that the humans are the superior race. Considering what a fail this film was, as an entry in the Predator franchise, as animated feature with a gripping plot, especially as an anthology, this paints a pretty bad picture for what director Dan Trachtenberg has in store for us later in the year with Predator Badlands.
