It's the Penultimate episode of the #ResidentEvil Retrospective and it's truly the franchise's highs and lows. The much lauded Resident Evil 4 brings the series to a new console generation and takes the IP from fixed camera angles and doomed cities to 3D gameplay and gothic villages. Leaning the series more into the action direction, the return of series creator Shinji Mikami spelled such innovation and success that this latest title could not be maintained to a single gaming system and was soon ported to every and any console with a disk drive and controller. And then came one of the single worst contributions ever to the Resident Evil license, the 2002 film adaptation that would see future husband wife duo Paul WS Anderson and Milla Jovovich exploit, bastardize and ultimately hold this series hostage on the silver screen for a decade and a half. It's a tale of two media, one brought the brand to new triumphs and advanced the series, the other carved out dubious success and exaggerated prosperity that held the film franchise in a vice grip to the IP's detriment. Truly a success story and cautionary tale.

What an utter waste. This is what I get for being optimistic. With the exception of the animation, Predator Killer of Killers botches its premise and potential literally from the jump. From its aggressively annoying girl boss Viking opener, to its episode conclusions, to the end fight, to that surprise (?) closing scene, the disappointments were aplenty. It's almost impressive how this movie squandered so much that it had going for it. All this animated feature do was further embarrass the Predator when it had the opportunity to re-establish how dangerous this species really is. The way this movie portrays what should be recognized as the lead character, you would think that the humans are the superior race. Considering what a fail this film was, as an entry in the Predator franchise, as animated feature with a gripping plot, especially as an anthology, this paints a pretty bad picture for what director Dan Trachtenberg has in store for us later in the year with Predator Badlands.
